Ten Months!!

The big question: Is he walking yet? We’re not really sure. He can’t just stand up and walk across the room, but he can do things that seem really close. He can lean against a wall and then walk forward 1-2 steps to a person; he can stand up and turn in a circle without holding on to anything. He can be holding onto one thing and let go before moving to another thing to hold onto. Is it walking? Not sure, but it should be clear soon.

D & H, Thanks for sharing the updates on Alex, I miss him so much. However, it's really, really, really ...
Great Grandfather

Alex’s great grandfather has died. Below is a picture he sent in one of his last emails to me. It’s Pookey as a child in 1929. You’ll notice a family resemblance.

Day-care-itis

We’re on illness 2 or 3 now. It’s hand-foot-mouth disease http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dvrd/revb/enterovirus/hfhf.htm now (no, not related to hoof-and-mouth). Apparently it’s one of those things you have once and then never have again. Alex has red spots all over and is generally just not feeling well – poor guy!

Vegas and teeth

Alex liked Vegas – he was a little overwhelmed by all the people and lights and being somewhere new, but as long as he had a little extra snuggling he seemed okay. He especially liked the fountains at the bellagio and the dancing girls (’strip poker – leave the stripping to us’ was the motto – I don’t know if he was thinking of dinner or something else, but he liked them). Vegas is not baby friendly though – too many people and things are much too far apart – plus you can’t take strollers some places like to the pirate show. Alex has 2 more teeth (for a total of 6) and he’s been putting his teeth to good use. The other day we were in the grocery store and he grabbed a tomato and ate about half of it in the store – crazy! (he’s a big tomato fan at the moment) He’s getting very close to walking. He says dadgee and kitgee (kitty) pretty well, along with a mess of other things we can’t understand.

Table Tops are no Longer Safe…

So he’s now tall enough and can stand up well enough that he can grab things off the top of counters and tables (and pull things like garbage cans on top of himself). He seems to be having a good time…

How cute! He looks so happy.
9 months!

I’ve been properly harassed for not updating this page since we were all sick (I’m still sick, but everyone else is feeling better), so…

Alex is now 9 months. He had his check up and weighed in at 23 pounds, 30 inches. He’s in the 95% of height and the 75% in weight – big boy! He’s started cruising on all of the furniture, waving, and seems to be saying some words (they’re all garbled though). We’d forgotten what a happy baby he could be because we were all sick so long, but he’s back to his normal smiling self.

Today we head off to Vegas – H has a research conference there and everyone else is coming along (before the gparents feel jealous that we’re not headed their way, know that H had to go anyway and that her research funds can pay for most of the trip). We’re hoping Alex will like the bright lights and fountains and such.

Sick babies are no fun

Alex has his first real illness – he’s got the stuffy nose, cough, sore throat, upset stomach ache, fever. he keeps waking himself up at nite coughing – no one has gotten much sleep the last few days. He has started waving and has some signs though, which is pretty cool.

Toofs, peeps, and stairs

All he wanted for xmas was his two front teeth and he got them – well, most of them. He’s been babbling up a storm – lots of dadadada and mamama. He’s now going up and down stairs and is climbing up everything in sight (and sometimes falling down) in his drive to master this new skill.

Gparent redux

Grammy and grandpa came to visit lil’ Alex. They got in lots of baby squeezes and giggles. Alex loved their glasses, grammy’s snuggles and grandpa’s antics. He’s a little more spoiled after the visit!
